Mornsun launched the new 1/4 brick Railway Power Supply UWTH1DxxQB-100WR3 Series with the feature of an ultra-wide input voltage range of 12:1 (14-160VDC) and the peripheral design can be effectively simplified by the latest technology to achieve hold-up time up to 10ms.

 

Moreover, this series with a radiator can work well at 85℃ operating temperature under full load, is free to change the input voltage range through its DIY under-voltage regulation function to meet the needs for a different input voltage of different railway systems.

 

In addition to ultra-high isolation voltage design, the product also meets the certification requirements of EN50155, EN62368, EN45545, AREMA, CSA62368, etc. Different input voltages under the same peripheral conditions can be realized by using this series product, while it can avoid the peripheral circuit being replaced by the change of input voltage, which is resulting in the recertification for the system at the user's end.

The global mainstream railway nominal voltage includes 24V, 28V, 36V, 48V, 72V, 96V and 110V. According to the figure above, we can know that under the EN50155 standard for railway applications, the minimum voltage is 14.4V in 24V nominal state, and the maximum voltage can reach 154V in 110V nominal state. To meet the different input voltages around the world, the traditional way is to divide the input voltage into three sections: 9-36VDC, 18V-75VDC, 43-160VDC. In this way, we can choose as we need, but we should face the difficulty of unifying materials and increasing the number of certifications, resulting in additional costs at the user's end.

 

UWTH1DxxQB-100WR3 was launched to avoid the above difficulties by adapting to different input voltage railway systems around the world.

 

2. Meet the EN50155 hold-up time of 10ms with the optimal and cost-effective peripheral

To meet the different input voltages of 24V, 28V, 36V, 48V, 72V, 96V and 110V, the traditional way is to design a peripheral circuit with different capacitors to meet the hold-up time under different input voltages.

 

If you want to achieve the idea of using a fixed set of peripheral, the voltage withstands of the electrolytic capacitor must be ≥200VDC. Under the EN50155 standard for railway applications, the energy stored in the capacitor must be able to meet the requirement of maintaining 10ms in a 24V nominal state at 100W, the capacitor volume may be very large, which is a great challenge for applications that require a compact design.

 

MORNSUN's UWTH1DxxQB-100WR3 Series isolated dc dc converter resolve the above problems by adopting its latest technology. Only a 470uF/100V capacitor can meet the demand of Hold-up time up to 10ms in the full voltage range of 14-160VDC. Simplify peripheral design, but also maintain a compact size design.

MORNSUN UWTH1DxxQB-100WR3 Series has a specific outside pin of hold-up time control function, when the power is on, the input energy can not pour into the hold-up time setup capacitor directly, reducing the capacity of the input end, so that the surge current generated by the electrolytic capacitor will be greatly reduced, and further improve the reliability of the user system. The figure below shows the comparison of the impulse current between the traditional scheme and MORNSUN scheme (tested without any suppression treatment). It can be seen that the impulse current of MORNSUN is only half of that of the traditional scheme.

3. Programmable input Undervoltage adjustment

Besides, MORNSUN's UWTH1DxxQB-100WR3 Series has an input under-voltage adjustment pin, by adjusting the resistance value between the pin and the input ground, the input under-voltage point can be easily changed by the user according to the actual needs of the system.

4. High I/O isolation voltage up to 3000VAC, meets 5000m altitude requirements

EN50155 standard for railway applications requires the highest voltage resistance of 1500VAC input to output. MORNSUN’s UWTH1DxxQB-100WR3 Series can achieve 3000VAC input to output reinforced insulation, 2500VAC input and shell and 2500VAC output to shell.

The design complies with the safety standard requirement to improve the reliability at high altitudes applications

6. The Matching Filter

By adding the FC-C08D module to the front end of the DC/DC module, the power supply meets the EMC requirements of EN50155. When used with MORNSUN railway power supply module, the maximum input voltage of the railway power supply should not be greater than the maximum working voltage of FC-C08D.
